Lieutenant Roland Eugène ALEXANDRE

Roland Alexandre was born on 30th June 1921 in Jouy-en Josas (78) in south-western Paris.  His parents were resident in the Paris suburb of Vincennes, both were French and Alexandre therefore held French nationality.  Alexandre was an only child and at some point in his childhood his father, Charles left the household and his whereabouts thereafter remain unknown.  His mother Marie (née Esnault) remarried, to an Englishman Sidney William Harrild and took British nationality while her son retained his French nationality.  From 1928 to 1937 Alexandre attended the Ecole Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salte in Paris and gained his Certificat d’Etudes there.  He completed his secondary education in England from 1937 to 1939 at Shoreham Grammar School near Brighton, Sussex, on the south coast.  At some point his mother died and Alexandre remained with his stepfather in the Brighton area.
