Second Lieutenant Edmond Louis Fernand LESOUT

Edmond Lesout was born a French citizen on 13 February 1907, in
Le Havre, France where his father’s occupation was the repair of the small
pilot boats of the town’s port. The son
of Edmond Victor Lesout and Blanche Villard Lesout, he lgrew up in Le Havre where he attended the Ecole Augustin Normand in Le Havre
from 1911-19, achieving his Certificat d’Etudes before leaving school at the
age of 13 and starting work as a courier. At the age of 16, he joined the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, more widely known as the French Line, as a bell boy steward on the company’s
luxurious passenger ships. From 1929 he
