Edward ‘Teddy’ Wilkinson was born on 27 June 1902 in St Louis, Missouri in the United States. He was the son of Gaston Edward Wilkinson (French born, but naturalised British) and his French wife, Alice.  He took dual British and American nationality and thanks to his parentage was completely bilingual in French and English. His two brothers, George Wilkinson (q.v.) and Herbert Wilkinson, were also both to serve the Allied cause in tragic circumstances.  The Wilkinson family had been peripatetic, with sojourns in Britain, the USA and France. Gaston Wilkinson's business interests included a ceramics company and a restaurant in the rue des Pyramides in Paris and these widespread commercial interests were reflected in the nature of his children's education; Teddy, the eldest son, was baptized in Paris two years after his birth, but went to the Pilgrim House preparatory school in Westerham, England, and then returned for his secondary education to the Lycée Henri IV in the centre of Paris.........[Remainder of case study is complete - contact author for further details].
